EP 185: HOW TO GET HIRED LIKE A BOSS | FEEDBACK FRIDAY
Ramit Sethi introduces Jordan to "the briefcase technique"
The technique essentially is instead of giving the interviewer your resume, you research the interviews of the CEO or someone in the company & find out what their problems are or what they are focusing on now, connect on LinkedIn or another site of someone who works there or used to work there & ask them what they are focusing on.
After finding out what they are focusing on, either through a cover letter by email or in an interview [pulling out the cover letter], tell interviewer that you would be helping them fix that problem in your 30-60-90 day plan. Also tell them what another company has done, the past employees that you already talked with, what your objectives are & how you would measure it.
A networking strategy is instead of meeting someone for coffee & picking their brain, follow the person and see what they are doing more of. Offer to fix their problem for free. Show, don't tell, give them the work already done. To get experience, do this beforehand with a smaller client. Let the person you want to network with know that you've been listening to them for a while and this is what you would do to fix their problem & just do it for them.
