designated days
For the past few weeks, I've continued my remote job hunt, alongside making progress in another intensive learning project.
I will be writing about that separately.
This looks like:
-following profiles
-people accepting my connection requests
-searching for sustainable travel and mobility companies on LinkedIn, Google, or Ecosia
-applying to official remote job applications in the edtech or sustainable mobility/transportation/travel industry
Why, in addition to edtech, sustainable mobility, green transportation, and green tourism companies?
Because after I read an article on green transportation, I eagerly contemplated my contribution in this growing sector. As I have written about before, I read a daily article about a sustainability-related topic. I just read an article on green jobs and green skills on TreeHugger.
Even more enthusiastically, I read about the intersection of two industries, edtech and sustainability: sustainability education & training in conjunction with AI, virtual reality, or other tech. When I took the solo business marketing intensive workshop in 2023, I wanted to start a business merging my accelerated-learning knowledge with green skills training/online courses. So this checks out.
To make my tasks crystal clear, I've divided my days into 3 categories: "connection days," "research days," and "writing days."
Connection days are for messaging people and applying to companies [either through an email I've already wrote on the writing day or filling out the formal job application].
So far, I've sent LinkedIn connection requests to ten people and applied to four jobs so far, two in edtech and two in sustainability. For a writer/researcher, a sales representative, and a copywriter.
Research days are for further understanding what a person does within the company & who the company is specifically looking for. Am I a good fit? I like to ask AI that. Or myself.
While on my FastMail, I look up the companies listed within the open roles emailed to me [I signed up for job alerts from remote job boards]. An amazing find has been a job board called "Remote Climate Jobs." This strategy is how I come across different companies.
I clip the Google and Ecosia-searched companies under my Safari bookmarks and log on their LinkedIn profile to further see what they are about.
After doing this for a bit, I discovered some of the roles for a sustainability course/training platform. Other roles involved copywriting for a marketing/brand agency, a sales representative for an online mentorship platform, and a digital organizer for an impact-focused brand. Through LinkedIn and remote job boards, I got interested in working for a sustainable education company.
After all that is done, I look for more companies in the edtech or sustainable mobility/tourism sector, prioritizing entry-level roles in writing or sales.
And on a writing day? On these days, I write blog posts. If I finish a blog post draft, I write email drafts. Being all about the personal, I like doing this more than direct messaging. So far, I wrote four emails to people who work in the companies. And I write personalized LinkedIn connection requests before I message.
If this doesn't work out, I have a Plan B.
